Well it has been some time since I posted anything on here.... could be the signs of a busy time or perhaps laziness on my part. I suppose in reality it is a bit of both.
So here we go another year of fell race photography, think things may be a little different this year, well the early part of it anyway.... I fell over Christmas and wrenched my arthritic knee, so the locations I will be using may be not as high as last year, or closer to the road!!!

Anyway Graham and I are off to Ras Y Mast tomorrow and I am looking forward to it....

Snowdon Marathon

Well, just like last year it was wet, windy and cold. The odd heavy shower of hail stones was an added problem. The new camera functioned well, the main problem was when to change batteries/CF cards, but I have that problem with any camera I use. I am running out of space on the CF card or running out of battery power just as I see a large group of runners coming through the gate on the skyline above me.
The biggest saviour of the day was my Wolfskin Mountain Umbrella, I only had to wipe the camera lens once, which was a wonder considering that the weather appeared to have taken it against me personally. I must have looked a right sight to the runners, jammed against the wall, hiding under my umbrella. BUT it worked, between the wall and the umbrella I ended up with a dry camera.
The pictures are up on the site, that took some time, I shot over 5K pictures, I will not rage about the lack of broadband in Rhiwlas, at least the community (including me) are trying to do something about it. Not surprisingly the village is the biggest "Not-spot" in Britain.
OK next weekend Saturday I hope to be at Park Hall to cover the North Staff's Cross Country Event and on Sunday I hope to be at Mad Jack's 5

Races and gardens......

Been some time since I wrote anything in here, life must have been exciting...or not perhaps.

On the races front, two races coming up this weekend, Richard's The Fox Trot on Saturday and the Uphill World Trial Selection Races on Sunday. Last Saturday's Push up the Pincyn was going well until I discovered I had lost all of my CF cards but one on the previous Wednesday night and the sun came out...... not good pictures.... If I cover that race next year definitely know what my location will be....... something to do with a bale of straw perhaps.
Our gardens are in full production, the one up North is producing leeks, onions and beetroot, the one in Mid Wales is producing runner beans, fennel and from the green house lots of loverly yellow tomatoes and peppers......

Batch Bash

Been a bit quiet in the blog recently, Travelling up and down Wales, getting wet on Saturday at the Cader Idiris Fell Race, and warm on Monday at the Mynydd Myfr race over at Trefonen outside Oswestry.
The weather seems to be getting better, so perhaps it will be good for tonight's Batch Bash, anyway I will be there, not quite sure where to go to take pictures, where I was last year, the summit of Nover's Hill, is tempting, but having walked what I think is the course, somewhere along the Long Batch is an alternative.
Saturday brings the Welsh 1000 Metre Peaks race, I really do hope the weather will be better than last year..... the forecasts look good... anyway I will be there, towards the end of the course, depending on the cloud base.

Sunday - Sarn Helen

Just a quick post before I head off to Sarn Helen. I was really pleased with the pictures from Cribyn, the weather was almost perfect, thanks to Helen's suggestions for locations I did not have to do a reccy before hand, and the cake was wonderful.
All the pictures of the runners ascending are up, and I have uploaded some of the pictures of the runners returning and will finish them when I get home from Sarn Helen...

Friday night and all ready to go, down to South Wales, Cribyn tomorrow and Sarn Helen on Sunday. Not photographed Cribyn before looks like a good course, "her indoors" said the weather looks good tomorrow so could get some decent pictures. Hoping to get the pictures up on the site tomorrow night if not will not be there until Sunday night.
It is my second visit to Lampeter to cover the Sarn Helen race, getting close to my home town Carmarthen, will be lazy and go to the same spot as last year top of Craig Twrch, or part of the way up that track.

Sunday - No Hangover

Saturday - Carneddau

I was going to say the weather did not look as bad as predicted... but the wind seems to be rising and there is a lot of cloud coming in so we will see. Anyway today is the day of the Carneddau Fell Race and I am on Yr Elen... spare base layer packed and full water proofs......

Trish the Dish's birthday tomorrow and I have the feeling that the odd glass of something alcofrolic will be consumed tonight.....

Carneddau on Saturday and if we are to believe the weather men it is not going to be a nice sunny day so I don't think I will be taking sun tan cream...... Anyway back to the excitment of the election programme.... if you are running on Saturday see you on the summit of Yr Elen.

I had a good time over the weekend, would have got wet on Saturday but thanks to Di's umbrella held by Graham I still managed to stay sort of dry and get some pictures in the rain and hail. Sunday at Ras y Diafol the weather held and apart from a cold breeze it was quite good. Two well organised races, was a pleasure to photograph them... Congratulations to the runners especially Afan and Phoebe who won the challenge trophies.
Next week sees a visit on Wednesday to the Sheinton Steeplechase and a trip up North to marshal the Carneddau race on Saturday. Weekend after was going to photograph the Moel Eilio race but Pete Douglas is going to cover that one, I am hoping to go down South on the Saturday 15th and photograph the Cribyn race and on the Sunday travel over to Lampeter to cover Sarn Helen.
Oh and there is the Caradoc Classic on Wednesday 12th..... busy busy.....

What a hectic time, Ras y Moelwyns on Saturday, and down to Mynydd Troed on Sunday.... no wonder I fell asleep infront of the television on Sunday night. All this rushing about is no good for an old man like me. Anyway all the pictures are up on the site, loads of sunshine, but still quite cold on the tops.
On to tomorrow Graham and I are off to the Wrekin Streak, and then next Saturday off to Llangollen for the Llantysillio Race..... hope the weather holds, like the Cardington Cracker a race it has lots of loverly landscapes shots to be taken.
Just out of the seven days next week may herald a return visit to Pentyrch to cover the race there on Tuesday.....

Off to the Lanbedr-Blaenafon Fell Race this weekend. Weather looks good... I am hoping to get some decent pictures. Back up to North Wales for Foel Lus on Tuesday night. Am going to be part of the team providing radio cover for that race and will be on the summit of Foel Lus.

Corndon Classic today, In a lovely evening yesterday I walked the middle section of the course with Di and Graham looking for, or should I say checking, a location to use today. But looking at the rubbish weather today a little re-think may be called for...

Long Mynd Valleys and Tarren Hendre

Well the Long Mynd Valleys has been run..... good locations for the pictures, the second one with thanks to Graham. Need a camera that works better in low light levels. Tarren Hendre next weekend, not quite sure which location to use, would be nice to be on the summit of Tarren Hendre, but every time I have been there, Tarren Hendre has had it's head in the clouds. I was really pleased with some of the pictures from LMV....

Peris Horseshoe - 2009

This coming Saturday, Pedol Peris, weather permitting, Hoping to be located at the top of the Watkin Path, just before the scree slope, If the weather is unpleasant then somewhere down the Llanberis Path..... Didn't get there, weather looked poor so tried for the top of Moel Cynglorion, but it rained on me there and visibility was not that good so ended up at the final check point....

Well looks as if the weather may hold..... scattered showers are promised... I intend walking up the Llanberis path and hopefully talking some pictures of the runners, pictures which should appear on the site later....
